Dr. Alis Top 3 Exercises for your Spine

Fri Jun 28 2019

Maintaining good spinal health is detrimental. It is the highway that is holding all your nerves. If we get a misalignment in our spine, it can cause a multitude of issues. Back pain, headaches, sciatica are just some of the symptoms that can arise from a misalignment. The good news is that you can visit a chiropractor to help relieve this misalignment. Your chiropractor will perform a spinal adjustment on you that can bring back the alignment. For some, this can also result in their headaches, and pain leaving. However, your chiropractor can’t be with you all of the time, sadly. Therefore, we do have to make sure that when we are on our own we are maintaining good spine health.

I once again sat down with Dr. Ali and asked him his top 3 recommended exercises for your spine.

1. Yoga

Yoga is a fantastic way to improve function, flexibility and strength around our spine. I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 15, and the surgeon at Children’s Hospital’s first recommendation was to do yoga to alleviate some of my pain. I recently have started practicing yoga at Bikram Yoga – here in Coquitlam – and have noticed a huge improvement in the strength around my spine.

2. Weight Training

Aside from its other benefits on your body, weight training will also help improve the strength of your back and your abductor muscles. This is very important to maintaining your spinal health. Grabbing that $15/month gym pass will definitely be worth it!

3. Maintaining Good Posture

This could be by far one of the hardest exercises. It seems very simple. All you have to do is sit up straight! However, I guarantee that within 5-10 minutes of you sitting up straight you will find yourself hunched over again. If you sit at a desk all day this one is especially important. Try placing a sticky note on your desk with a reminder to sit up straight!

These are Dr. Ali’s top 3 exercises for your spine. I’m sure he has many more in his arsenal, but I would recommend starting with these 3! Please do not hesitate to ask Dr. Ali any more questions at your next adjustment. And if you would like to meet Dr. Ali for the first time, give us a call so we can set up an initial chiropractic assessment for you!
